Musings of a CQA Co-President
As this somewhat challenging term comes to an end, I just remember all the wonderful people I worked with, lovely ladies who helped me, and I give THANKS. I give a special Shout Out to our CQA Board. While we are moving from Zooming our meetings to being together in-person again, I am grateful. We quilters are tactile people; we need to touch and feel the fabric (not the Quilts - Ha!) and I think touch one another. We inspire one another, teach one another, and celebrate one another. Right?
And so "Quilts and Cars on Tour" was born and gave joy and inspiration to our attendees. So many folks gave me positive feedback and wanted to thank our Guild for putting it on. I want to thank all of our volunteers who worked so hard, the hostesses/homeowners who opened their homes and hearts putting on a great show wowing their guests, car owners (weren't they great?), and most of all, my friend and our fearless leader, Cheryl Collart. I knew when I asked her to do this that she would rise to the occasion, and I think she blew everyone's socks off!!! What a fabulous event it was.
I am excited to be President this next year. I'm starting to get the hang of it. Thank You All for supporting CQA. I love Quilting & Quilters. Cheers to Creativity!
Joey Strait, CQA Co-President
About Us
Camarillo Quilters Association is a nonprofit organization established in 1980 to promote quilting in the Ventura County, California area. Our specific purpose is to exchange ideas about quilting, learn new techniques, improve quilting skills, and inform the community about the history and preservation of quilts.
The Guild meets the second Tuesday of every month, except August, and February at 9:30 A.M. at Community Center Auditorium, 1605 Burnley Street, Camarillo, CA. 93010. Guild Parking is in the east side parking lot (front lot is reserved for the senior center). The February meeting is at Freedom Center, 515 Eubanks St., Camarillo CA 93010.
We distribute quilts to the many charities that we support at the June and December meetings. Our Quilt Show, Quilting By The Sea, is held in the spring of even-numbered years.
Our guild membership is currently over 200 and our monthly meetings include a show and tell time featuring amazing examples of our members’ completed quilt works, an exciting raffle for multiple gifts provided by local quilt shops, and lectures and trunk shows by visiting speakers on a variety of quilting topics. During the break, there is time to socialize and to check out quilting books from our extensive library.
Workshops offer our members an opportunity to learn first-hand from the expertise and inspiration of quilting experts from around the country. In sharing our interest in quilting with the community, our members participate in community events such as the Ventura County Fair. We provide quilt displays in various organizations throughout the county to foster interest, and we contribute quilts to those in need through such organizations as the Casa Pacifica, Habitat for Humanity, Life Centers of Ventura County, Lighthouse, Neo Natal Intensive Care Unit, New Start for Moms, Kids to Kids, Safe Harbor and RAIN.
Be sure to check out our Programs page to see the great list of speakers we have scheduled! Guests are always welcome to attend our meetings (guest fee is $5.00).
